And
now for something different. Pathian. One man. Great music. All instrumental.
But this is not some guitar god going nuts to show how much like Yngwie
Malmsteen he can sound.
Pathian
creates powerful, borderline Gothic music. Gothic because of the sheer
size that it portrays. He has so far created two CD's, 'Resurrection'
was his debut creation, and was very impressive all the way from start
to finish.
There
are a good deal of dark songs, but not overly dark, kind of dark with
an upbeat feel. It's hard to describe. Powerful. And then there are
songs like 'Here Be Dragons' which have a more folky sound to them.
His
new CD, 'Never Never' is even more powerful, and slightly heavier.
There is a good mix of guitar and keyboards, along with a drum machine.
I believe that this is done 100% by Pathian, and it is very impressive.
It defies an easy category, as it is not traditionally Goth nor Metal
nor Industrial, nor anything else that could easily be used to describe
most music. It simply is. And it is good, but keep in mind, it is
also all instrumental, no vocals anywhere.
You
can jump over to www.pathian.co.uk for more info on his work, and
to download MP3's of some of the songs to see for yourself what I
am trying to describe. I would list my favorite songs or highlights,
but I like the whole CD, from the most drifty mellow of songs to the
most aggressive...
